Long-term care insurance is one of the most misunderstood tools in senior care. Most families we meet either don't realize their policy covers in-home care, or assume it does when it doesn't. Here's the plain-English version.
What most CT policies actually cover
The majority of long-term care policies sold in Connecticut cover in-home personal care and homemaker services once the insured needs help with two or more 'activities of daily living' (bathing, dressing, transferring, toileting, continence, eating) — or has a cognitive impairment.
The elimination period trip-up
Almost every policy has a 30, 60, or 90-day waiting period before benefits start. Care during that window is out-of-pocket, but it counts toward the elimination clock — so starting care early actually shortens the wait.
How we help
Morning Star bills most CT long-term care policies directly and helps families file the initial claim. Bring your policy to the free consultation — we'll read it with you.
